The Church of St. Bartholomew in Novi Mikanovci was basically built as a Romanesque church in the 13th century. Later the eastern, apsidal part with counterforts was built in the Gothic style, while the circular defense tower on the eastern side, on the axis of the main front, acquired the role of the bell-tower.

By the latest archeological research, another even older church was discovered, with the Church of St. Bartholomew lying on its foundations in an almost identical position. The foundations discovered belong to a sacral structure of a pre-Romanesque period of the medieval settlement Horvati.

The church in Novi Mikanovci is particularly interesting for its leaning tower.
